Since 2003, I have been using public art as a means of social intervention, mixing audiovisual media and site-specific installation with live performance. I have performed at numerous venues and events in New York (the legendary WOW Cafe Theater; Whitney Museum; Leslie Lohman Museum; and the Performa Biennial) and worldwide (the Kansai Queer Film Festival in Osaka, Japan; Club Wotever in London, UK; and the Støros Music Festival in Norway).

Since 2013, I have been associate director at Harmattan theater, an environmental performance troupe based in New York.

Feminist & Queer Performance 2003-09

I started doing performance art in 2003 in London venues as queer burlesque duo Holy Whores with Dara Parks. I like the immediacy of the medium and the visceral sense of community it enables as a strategy for public intervention and political activism. Performance is also a fabulous research tool, especially for social dynamics and experimental political action. For feminists, queers and oppressed minorities, live performance has long functioned as a means of resistance and resilience, a space for antagonist and collaborative world-making. From 2006-09, I performed with the Norwegian lesbian feminist band The Hungry Hearts, doing stage shows and making art films in Japan, Germany, Norway and Portugal. From 2008-09, I performed with Gillian Sneed as CUMUL in venues like WOW Cafe Theater, Bond Street Theater and SITE festival in Bushwick. I also did solo and ensemble performance work, integrating shows at Performa Biennial, the Whitney Museum, the Leslie Lohman Museum and Art in Odd Places.

Environmental Performance 2010 onwards

Since 2010, I have been using live performance as an environmental practice and research methodology, working with Harmattan Theater in New York and around the world. We produce large-scale site-specific public performances dealing with climate change and global water politics in the Anthropocene. I am currently associate director for the company. harmattantheater.com
